Chrysler’s minivans - the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan - have a more contemporary layout but the quality of the controls is nowhere near as upscale. The Toyota Sienna may have richer materials, but its dash looks like it was designed five years ago. The buttons, dials and stalks operate free of sloppy wriggles. Minivan interiors have cleaned up nicely these days, and the Odyssey ranks among the best. In ascending order, trim levels include the LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. It’s even a bit of fun to drive, though at some point either you or your spouse will likely complain about its firm ride. The Honda Odyssey, one of America’s best-selling minivans, has all the patent strengths a kid-hauler should have: roominess, safety, reliability and decent fuel efficiency. Standard features on the base Odyssey LX include cruise control, power windows and a stereo with a CD player. The Odyssey has changed little since Honda updated it in 2008, so you might want to shop for older models to save money. The 2010 Odyssey has good safety scores, which should please parents who are shopping for a used minivan. Cargo space and fuel economy are average for the class. If you’re concerned about seating space, reviewers found that the third row was spacious enough to accommodate most adults. The interior was praised for its functionality and space, but reviewers noted that the adjustable eighth seat in the second row is only suitable for small children.
